Abdominoplasty or "Tummy Tuck"
Have
you had the experience that although exercise tones up your muscles and dieting
improves your wellbeing, you just cannot get rid of the fat around and below
your belly button?
For a flatter, trimmer stomach or abdomen, you might want to consider an
abdominoplasty, or "tummy tuck." A tummy tuck tightens and firms sagging
skin and corrects muscle separation in the abdominal region.
Women and men can both benefit from a tummy tuck. Working through a "Bikini
cut" incision, the sagging skin of the tummy and stretched muscles are
tightened.
Mini Tummy Tuck
For patients with fullness below the belly button, excess skin and fat can be
removed trough a shorter incision just above the pubic region. Liposuction is
often combined with a mini-tuck to improve the contours. Being a less extensive
procedure that a full tummy tuck, the recovery time is often shorter.
Presurgery Preparation
Prior to your surgery, Dr. Michelow will explore your goals with you. The
proposed operation will be discussed with you and you will be informed of the
advantages and disadvantages of surgery.
The surgery is expected to take about 4 hours. Drains are removed at 4-7 days
depending on the outflow. You will be encouraged to move around from the day
after surgery. Recovery time is generally 3 to 5 weeks and it will take about
three to four weeks to get back into your exercise routine.
Please understand that a trade off of a tummy tuck is a rather log scar
extending from one side of the abdomen, to the other. Scars occasionally widen
or thicken. This may require additional work to improve. Also keep in mind that
weight loss or gain can affect results following the surgery.
