Ear Pinning
Many children with prominent ears are frequently uncomfortable with this malady.
This may be the source of teasing by siblings or friends. A simple procedure
to fold the ears closer to the side of the head is effective in correcting
this condition. The procedure is performed as an outpatient and the child returns
home the same day. Recovery is quick although the ears need to be protected
for a few weeks.
Asymmetrical Breasts
Development of breasts of unequal size is commonly seen
in adolescents. When the asymmetry is minimal, no correction is necessary.
When the asymmetry is marked, progressive enlargement of the smaller breast
with a breast expander will assist in correcting the problem. Poland syndrome
is a condition in which one breast is smaller than the other and a portion
of the underlying pectoral muscle may be absent. Reconstruction with an expander
is effective in this condition.
