If you look younger because you have had a face lift or other rejuvenation procedures but your aging hands are giving away your secrets, Dr. Michelow can help.
Although a face-lift may turn back the clock, the features of aging reflected in the hands are more difficult to hide. These include irregular pigmentation of the skin, thinning of the soft tissue, wasting of the muscles, prominence of the veins and visibility of the bones of the hand.
Rejuvenation of the hands focuses on 3 main areas
- improving the irregular pigmentation on the back of the hands
- replenishing the soft-tissue of the hand and thereby
- reducing the visibility of the veins and hand bones.
Chemical peels, bleaches and laser techniques reduce or remove brown spots and irregular pigmentation from sun damage.
Fat injections or synthetic fillers such as hyaluran (Restylane®) are effective in regaining the youthful fullness of the back of the hand.
Sclerotherapy may assist in obliterating some of the prominent veins on the back of the hand.
These procedures are usually associated with minimal inconvenience of a few days to a week or so. Regular activities can be resumed within a day and bruising fades progressively. Either singly or in combination, these techniques provides for younger looking hands.
